Megan's Birthday cupakes!

So I found this great idea online about making cupcakes in ice cream cones! They were an absolute hit and soooo delicious! I made red velvet cupcakes! Happy 21st Birthday Megan! We LOVE you! We also chipped in as a house and bought Megan a ticket to see Shpongle with us! Im so excited!

DIRECTIONS:
1) Choose any batter you like!
2) preheat over to 350
3) place ice cream cones in each hold of a regular cupcake pan (like you would a cupcake liner)
4) pour batter into the cones; a little less than the first distinguished edge of the cone
5) bake until done: depending on batter... ours took like 20-25 minutes
6) decorate how you like!

LORQ!

Soooo... randomly a cool kid from Eugene, Oregon came to our house and brought with him a bag of sweet poi tricks... He was here for the Arcata Juggling Festival at HSU! I had no idea there was such a thing! I wish I would've known, because Lorq was absolutely amazing. Here are some pictures from his midnight showing.

This weeks cooked yummies...

Blake made some yummy stuffed red peppers for when Cassie's parents came to visit, who by the way are soooooo AWESOME! And I made 4 loaves of sweet zucchini bread! I will try and convince Blake to post his recipe online!

Riding West End Road

So... I've been thinking about riding my bike to town to get groceries for quit a while now, and there is this amazing scenic route called West End Road that goes from Blue Lake to Arcata... It's pretty hilly and with my current lack of riding I admit that I am pretty out of shape. But today was such a beautiful day that I didn't have the heart to get in my car and drive the 7 miles from my house to town. I brought my camera to document the ride... I apologize that the end of the ride was not so beautiful so after I exited the redwoods I stopped shooting... just a bunch of industrial, smokey, buildings. YUK! I could definitely smell the difference as I rode along... I was so proud of myself that I made it back 14-16 miles later! I'm going to try and make this journey everytime I need to go to town :)

DONE!

Garden Progess

We still have some paths to mulch, but we laid down all the ground cover we could scrounge up in preparation... I think it will look AMAZING when it's done. Already it has given off some good energy. I think we will be having lots of gardenside picnics with our ducks! :)

DUCKS DUCKS DUCKS!!!

After much talk the past few days and after finding a California duck hatchery.... we've decided to get two ducks!!! Blake and I (Jaclyn) figured we would gut and clean up the shed in the back yard and make it into the duck house... it's going to need some much needed hard labor... but it will make the perfect duck house... pictures coming soon! We should have our little baby ducklings the first or second week of April... Now we just need to find a baby pool...

Sad news: we dug up the diseased fig tree today and re-potted him... i dont think he's going to make it :(

YEAH!!!!

This is our house, located in sunny, cozy, population 1400 Blue Lake, California (Humboldt County). If you don't know where that is then get a map... but to give you an idea... the redwood forests are pretty much our backyard. Currently our house consists of 5 humans (Megan, Kat, Cassie, Blake and Jaclyn) and 2 cats (Blackie our adopted feral friend and Luce Luce our feisty ragdoll). We all like to do/make different things (crochet, ceramics, grow mushrooms, activism, play instruments, etc.) and we all like to do things together too (cook, drink beers, grow things in our gardens, play with kitties)... so we decided to start a blog about our house adventures... HOORAY!

Tonight we made eggplant/ broccoli/ red pepper PIZZA!!!!
